MISSION STATEMENT
The US Women’s Rugby Foundation is committed to fostering and sustaining the growth of women’s rugby in the United States and throughout the world.
VISION STATEMENT
Women’s rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. In order to meet the challenge of supporting this growth and assure women have voice, agency and opportunities to participate as players, coaches, referees and administrators, the Foundation seeks to be: An organizing body for players, coaches, administrators, referees and their allies. An archive for the history of women’s rugby and a research site for scholars and practitioners. An educational resource for the continuous development of players, coaches, administrators, and referees (running clinics, developing resource materials, offering fellowship opportunities for emerging scholars). A support for the women’s national and developmental teams.
FIVE KEY AREAS OF SUPPORT:
- Girls Youth Rugby – Develop girls touch rugby programs by partnering with existing youth organizations. Work with Territorial Unions to support a Girls High School Rugby Camp Series.
- Women’s Collegiate Rugby – Women’s rugby is currently recognized as an emerging NCAA sport and a number of collegiate programs have become priority or varsity sports. The Foundation will join USA Rugby in their effort to make Women’s Collegiate Rugby an NCAA Sport.
- Women’s Rugby Community – Provide a web-based community support portal. Sponsor women’s rugby networking events. Documentation of the history of women’s rugby in the United States. History provides markers and gives a perspective of how far the USA Women’s Rugby program has come. Reviewing the past, accomplishments or missteps, better equips the Foundation to develop strategies for the future.
- Women Coaches, Referees & Administrators – Organize clinics at major Women’s Rugby Events. Create opportunities to shadow upper level Coaches and Referees. Facilitate exchange programs between countries. Foster parental involvement in Youth Rugby.
- Women’s National Teams – The US Women’s National Program, the Eagles, was sanctioned in 1987. The US women won the inaugural Women’s World Cup in 1991. In the past 23 years, the US women have consistently been ranked in the top 7 in the world. The US Women’s Rugby program operates on a modest budget and struggles to maintain its history of excellence. We plan to help them in their quest to be tops in the world again.
